Fireworks Safety
- Attend Public Displays: It’s best to enjoy fireworks at organized, public displays conducted by professionals. They are safer and often more spectacular than private displays.
- Keep a Safe Distance: If you decide to use consumer fireworks, ensure there’s a clear, open area away from buildings, dry grass, and other flammable materials. Keep spectators at a safe distance and wear safety glasses.
Grilling Safety
- Grill in a Safe Location: Position the grill well away from siding, deck railings, and out from under eaves and overhanging branches.
- Keep Kids and Pets Away: Create a safety zone around the grill and enforce it to prevent accidents.
- Watch the Grill: Never leave the grill unattended. Stay vigilant and keep a fire extinguisher nearby in case of emergencies.

Sun Protection
- Use Sunscreen: Protect yourself from UV rays by applying sunscreen with at least SPF 30. Reapply every two hours, especially if swimming or sweating.
- Wear Protective Clothing: Opt for lightweight, long-sleeved shirts, hats, and sunglasses to shield yourself from the sun.
- Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to prevent dehydration.
Water Safety
- Swimming Skills: Only swim in designated areas with a lifeguard present if possible. Ensure everyone, especially children, has swimming skills appropriate for the water depth.
- Life Jackets: Use life jackets or other flotation devices as necessary, especially for inexperienced swimmers or when boating.
- Supervise Constantly: Never leave children unattended near water, even if they know how to swim.
Alcohol Awareness
- Designate a Driver: If you plan to drink, designate a sober driver beforehand or arrange for alternative transportation.
- Monitor Consumption: Pace yourself and be mindful of how much you’re drinking, especially in hot weather.
- Avoid Boating Under the Influence: Boating while intoxicated is dangerous and illegal. Alcohol can impair judgment and reaction times on the water just as on land.
