Making Waves: Introducing ReMakes™ Sustainable Eyewear

Every year, millions of tons of plastic waste pour into the oceans, impacting marine life and the environment. Upcycling plastic helps reduce damage to our oceans and gives unwanted waste a new life.

As we continue to look for ways to minimize our impact on the environment, we are proud to introduce ReMakes™ by Zenni, our first collection of sustainable glasses made with 100% certified recycled post-consumer plastic.

Each ReMakes™ frame is equal to three plastic water bottles. The collection includes eight chic, lightweight styles, including two kids’ frames. Each frame is available in two to four color options, including neutral earth-tones and blue gradients inspired by the ocean.

In addition to giving our customers a more sustainable way to wear fashionable customizable eyewear, we’re committed to delivering these glasses in a more sustainable way as well. ReMakes™ are shipped in a recyclable cardboard tube and include a pouch and lens cloth made from recycled materials.

Brown cylindrical containers labeled REMakes and a blue pouch with a recycling process and glasses icon. Container text: “1% FOR THE PLANET. One percent of your RE makes purchase supports the environment through 1% FOR THE PLANET.”

Through our partnership with 1% for the Planet, proceeds from each ReMakes™ purchase will support the Wyland Foundation, a nonprofit with a mission to promote, protect, and preserve the world’s oceans, waterways, and marine life.

The Wyland Foundation works to inspire, inform, and mobilize people everywhere to reduce harmful waste that affects the very thing that gives our planet life. The organization was founded in 1993 by artist and conservationist Wyland to address water quality and pollution issues affecting our ocean and waterways.

Together with the Wyland Foundation, Zenni will encourage environmental awareness through education programs, public arts projects, and community events.

Zenni is continually looking at ways to reduce our carbon footprint. In fact, we often get questions about the plastic eyewear cases that come with each pair of Zennis. The plastic cases are specifically designed to withstand the rigors of shipping, allowing us to ship our eyewear in a lightweight, recyclable plastic bag instead of excessive packaging. However, we continue to look into more eco-friendly alternatives. In the meantime, we encourage customers to upcycle their plastic cases—for example, they make great pencil cases or travel cases for makeup brushes!

We’d love your feedback on ReMakes™!
