If you like movies from the 1980’s, chances are you’ve seen the movie Tootsie. If you haven’t seen it, we highly recommend that you do. Not only is it hilarious, it has an all-star cast that includes Dustin Hoffman, Jessica Lange, Teri Garr, Bill Murray, Geena Davis, and more.
To give you a little backstory on the plot, Tootsie tells the story of Michael Dorsey, an out-of-work actor who reinvents himself as actress Dorothy Michaels to win a part. What was supposed to be a short-lived role turns into a long-term contract, and complications arise when Michael falls for his castmate Julie, who has no idea about Dorothy’s true identity.
Like many great movies before it (Aladdin, Newsies,The Producers), Tootsie was recently adapted for Broadway as a musical comedy. It hit the stage this past Apri and has already won a Tony Award for Best New Musical. Zenni is excited to be a part of the action by providing the eyewear for the cast of the show, including the signature red frames worn by Tootsie’s main character Dorothy, played by Tony Award winner Santino Fontana.
Our Tootsie Musical Collection will be available online in later this summer and includes the same styles worn onstage by the show’s characters.
